GESU ATHLETIC DIRECTOR
JOB DESCRIPTION
Mission Statement:
The ultimate goal of the Athletic Director at Gesu Parish (the “AD”) is to create and administrate a safe, equitable and comprehensive athletic program for the members of the Gesu Parish community and its youth. The AD shall strive to have athletics at Gesu Parish remain “student-focused”, with an emphasis on teaching and developing individual talents. The AD shall promote the ideals and programs of Gesu Parish in providing athletic leadership and development for the future.

General Duties:

• Report directly to the Pastor of Gesu Parish and work closely with the Principal, the Athletic Advisory Committee (the “AAC”) and the Gesu Booster Board (the “Booster Board”) in developing, coordinating and maintaining the Catholic Youth Organization (“CYO”) and Intramural (“IM”) athletic programs of Gesu Parish, including, but not limited to, the following teams:

a) Football - Varsity, Cadet, Developmental and Elemental 
b) Cheerleading – Varsity
c) Girls Soccer - Varsity and Cadet
d) Volleyball - Varsity, Junior Varsity, Cadet, Developmental and Elemental
e) Cross Country - Boys and Girls Teams
f) Basketball – High School, Varsity, Junior Varsity, Cadet, Developmental and Elemental Boys and Girls Teams
g) Baseball - Varsity, Junior Varsity, Cadet, Developmental and Elemental Boys Teams
h) Softball - Varsity, Junior Varsity, Cadet, Developmental and Elemental Girls Teams
i) Boys Soccer – Varsity and Cadet
j) Track - Boys and Girls Teams

INTRAMURALS

• Strive to create and insure effective and coordinated communication regarding all athletic matters including, but not limited to, the AD’s goals and expectations for the Gesu Parish athletic program and the day-to-day administration of all athletic teams and events.

• Be an effective and articulate leader who will represent Gesu Parish and its athletic program well in the community and Diocese.

• Develop the best conditions for our student-athletes to be instructed and perform.

• Be responsible for insuring effective and efficient use of all Booster Board funds, thus insuring the creation and maintenance of the most comprehensive athletic program.

Specific Duties:

• With the advisement of the AAC, be responsible for establishing, administering and enforcing the policies of the Gesu Parish athletic program in accordance with the polices of the Parish set forth in the Gesu Sports Information Handbook and the policies of the Diocesan CYO.

• Work with the Booster Board in developing and maintaining an operating budget that includes both the income and expenses of administrative fees, uniforms, equipment and facilities rental of all related athletic activities and events. Make recommendations to the Booster Board for athletic purchases and fund raising needs.

• Work with the Booster Board in developing uniform and equipment standards, inventory levels and competitive bid purchase contracts whenever possible. Coordinate the distribution and collection of all team uniforms and equipment for each sports season.

• Register all students for CYO and IM athletics. Adhere to all CYO guidelines and deadlines regarding sign-ups, including completion of rosters, physicals, medical forms, parent and athlete codes of conduct and special request applications.

• With the advisement of the AAC, select, assign, counsel and oversee all volunteer coaches for all CYO and IM athletic teams. Coordinate compliance by volunteer coaches with all fingerprinting, CYO Coaching Certification training, VIRTUS training and related requirements. Conduct all pre-season and post-season meetings with coaches to ensure compliance with all CYO guidelines, policies, recommendations and the spirit of the CYO. Arrange for any in-service clinics to help with coaches training. In the event of an emergency or illness, assist or fill in as a coach.

• Work with coaches and outside facilities managers to identify practice times, schedule facilities use, secure permits for the use of city fields and arrange for any outside rental for each athletic season or Gesu Parish sponsored athletic event. Coordinate any interscholastic scrimmages or practice games as requested by coaches. Coordinate and facilitate any open gyms or clinics to be held in the summer months.

• Attend all Diocesan CYO meetings, monthly Booster Board meetings and regularly and special scheduled AAC meetings. Serve as a liaison between the CYO, the Booster Board, the AAC, coaches and other member parish representatives in all matters regarding athletic philosophy, policy or operating guidelines.

• Establish an athletic events calendar in conjunction with the AAC and the Booster Board and coordinate these events with school and parish activities.

• Use best efforts to attend as many Gesu athletic events as reasonably possible during the school year.

• Act as Site Director for all CYO athletic events hosted at Gesu Parish. Assist in finding volunteers to work the concession stand and admissions table; hire assistant site facilitators; staff the scorer’s table; check coaches for proper credentials; and be responsible for completing and transmitting CYO paperwork following each event.

• Organize, coordinate and oversee all athletic tournaments to be held at Gesu Parish. Assist coaches in lining up participating teams; create schedules and brackets for each division; adjust practice schedules to accommodate tournament schedule; hire referees; staff the scorer’s table, assist in finding volunteers to work the concession stand and admission table; and purchase trophies for winning teams.

• Provide all necessary communication and documentation to coaches, parents and students as it pertains to their participation in all athletic activities. Publish schedules, registration materials, policy information and general sports updates as needed.

• Work with the Pastor, the Principal and the Gesu Parish Maintenance Staff to ensure proper use, security and upkeep of all athletic facilities and equipment, including post-game and post-practice clean-up.

• Provide parents the opportunity to discuss concerns about athletic policy, team activities, coaches or their children and by doing so, be able to resolve issues early on. Prompt communication with parents, volunteers, the AAC, the Booster Board and other involved in the Gesu Parish athletic program is a top priority.

• Work with the Principal to organize pep rallies and assemblies in support of athletic teams and athletic awards. Arrange for all facilities, speakers and awards related to these activities.
